Chuck E Cheese and Old Chi Town
I have to register for classes today. They gave me the registration time of 8:00 Monday morning. So I'm up, and skipping American Studies discussion to register. Here I am. Why isn't it working? I keep getting an error message!
Well, while I wait I'll tell all about my weekend. Friday was exciting. After logic, Tori and I waded back through puddles to the dorm. I was just about to put some dry clothes on when Tori asked if I wanted to go see her friend Anthony in a step show for Kappa Alpha Psi, the black fraternity. It started at 3:00 and we were supposed to get there early. So I said sure, and we walked through the rain to the Coffman Theatre. Which was completely empty. But we got excellent seats. It becomes increasingly noteable that not only is this a big event, but Tori and I are the only white people who wanted to see it. First up on the program was 7 Days, the U's acapella group, who were awesome (who knew you could sing Black Eyed Peas acapella?). But then the madness began. Fraternity initiation rituals, I'll never understand. We were there for at least 2 hours, watching them chant and sing and dance. Madness, I say.
Back in time for dinner with Elizabeth, however. I cannot express enough how much Elizabeth (and Renee!) save my life sometimes. I love you guys!
Everyone on the 3rd floor seemed to be waiting around before going sailing. So of course we filled up the time by creating an elaborate living mural on Chris' back. I have to say, it's some of our best work. But once we were done, there was more waiting around. So I called Brady, and dragged Karli and Tori along to meet the group for Dodgeball at Coffman. Karli was laughing so hard she was crying.
I followed Mssrs. Roman and Brady, plus Sara Nomeland and Anne Priest (who had intentions of sucking my brain but ended up sucking David's face instead) back to their room. David found his way over there too. And Ann Ellering and Kevin Schweitzer. And Dan Juolla (poor soul, the only non-Armstrong among us). So man was it a party.
David and Anne (my alpha male heroes) walked me home, and I went to bed. Increasingly I have the room to myself, as Tori spent the night elsewhere again.
Saturday was spent sleeping and lounging before I headed home. Spent time with the family--went to see "What the bleep do we know?" at the Edina theatre. It was ok. Brought up some interesting points and had interviews with colorful people. Tried a little too hard to be deep though. And parts of it were lame. But not entirely a waste of time.
More sleeping on Sunday. Then off to Chuck E Cheese for cousin Avae's 2nd birthday party, which was a blast. She's talking now, but very softly. She's very friendly; she wanted to be introduced to all of us right away. So cute. Laurie is pregnant now, too. She's due in January, which is really exciting. It's definitely a boy, so all the discussion is about names. And the obligatory story about how my dad wanted to name us all Carlos is resurfacing.
I got to be at St. Joe's for the first mass in the new church! It is BEAUTIFUL! I love it. Everything about it is light and ethereal and...ah. I want to live in there. Makes St. Lawrence seem very dark, despite the abundance of stained glass. Mr. Matt Byrnes was there, home from Hamline, with nieces and nephews in tow and looking very much like his old grizzly self.
Got back to Middlebrook in time for a pilgrimage on the light rail to Old Chicago for calzones with Chris, Kris, Karli and Lindsay. Lots of french fry secuction and singing a little too loud. But a wonderful time. Stayed up too late even though I had to get up to register. Which is working now, but I'm hating Spanish. Permission number my ass.
Well, I believe I've rambled on enough about things nobody really cares about. So, if you got this far I commend you.
