"I'm trying to conceive...Martin Luther King"
Another good weekend.
Because two film festival's very close to my heart fell on the same night, I had to sacrifice supporting Andy's "The Quest for Queen Merissa" which made its debut at Coffman. However, I did attend the second annual Armstrong film festival which was quite enjoyable. It was, of course, riddled with technical problems, just like last year. The quality of films, in general, didn't quite measure up to last years ("The Party Movie," some movie about a band that turned into Jackass gone wrong, Paul Rozniak's Lego's again weren't as cool this time) but there were some awesome ones. Basically, all of the sophomore's films.
Here's a list of my favorites:
"Untitled" by Billy Mullaney
A shaky, black and white silent film involving a girl being kidnapped and tied to the railroad tracks. Very goofy and well done. Billy plays a damn good villain.
"The Construction Worker Project" by Mark Mullaney
Billy and Mark were apparently quite bored during spring break. They borrowed an elaborate construction worker costume (complete with moustache), dressed Billy in it and sent him out to try and fit in with a construction crew. Very dramatic.
"Blackout" by Alexander Cooney
There is, naturally, a blackout. When lit, a creepy mouse candle comes to life, hatches eggs with little green flash men. Suspenseful and scary at time, yet also funny.
"Cassius Belli" by Jim Christenson
A political allegory in which two guys run over someone with their car and panic over what to do. My brother is featured as Jaques, the French exchange student.
"Lost in Rhyme" by Andrew Somers
At last my little brother enters his own film (instead of being my slave). Completed in four days, it features Andrew, Jim Christenson and Justin Burkholder entering a door in Jim's house and getting lost in the land of rhyme. "Being John Malkovich" meets Monty Python meets Dr. Seuss. Fantastic.
I also saw the movie "Millions" with the family on Saturday. That one is about a little boy who finds a bag of money. And also he sees saints. And also he has a British accent. And also he's adorable. It was very cute.
Of course, now it's all over. For he next two weeks I will be a sad shell of a person as I struggle to get everything together before I'm done next Friday.
