Study Abroad
Day 43
March 1st, 2006
10:17AM

Midterms are going okay. I had one on Monday (Theology) which was pretty hard. I didn’t fail, but I’m sure I didn’t get an A either. An hour of panicked studying with Robin and Mariko prepared me fairly well for art history, which I had Tuesday afternoon. Today I have Culture and Linguistics, both of which should be easy, and tomorrow I have both of my literature tests, which certainly shouldn’t kill me.

It’s especially evident during midterms week that all of us have very little motivation here at the Fund. There’s something about being here that makes us all feel resentful of having class at all. Every time a teacher assigns a paper I’m like “But we’re in Spain!”

In other news, Robin and Kelly’s room still has bedbugs. They changed the mattress and all the other linens in the room, but they’re still waking up with bites. Now they have to get out of the room for 12 hours while they fumigate. It’s pretty gross.

Yesterday I joined a Facebook group Ben started call “You know you’re at the Fund when…” Everyone has been making up their own, and I thought I’d list them here:

You know you’re at the Fund when…

…you feel up the bread at every meal looking for a soft piece (Kelly)
…you only venture out Monday-Thursday to walk to Enebro (Seth)
…you burn yourself on a lamp that’s 1,000,000 degrees (Kara)
…”Jumpsuit” (the repair man) comes in to try and fix the bathroom while you’re showering (Ally)
…you fake sleeping when the cleaning ladies come in to avoid conversation (Katie)
…your goal every day is to get the leather chair on the second floor (Seth)
…you sit on your bed and it moves halfway across the room (Andrea)
…you can clearly hear the conversation of two people who are on the complete opposite side of the building (Andrea)...you take one look at dinner and head straight for Doner Kabob (Andrea)
…you play “What color will Benito’s outfit be today?” (Katie)
…taco dinner was the best meal you’ve had since you left the states (Katie)
…you get excited for Tuesday because it’s “New Sheets Day” (Katie)
…you can’t figure out how to flush the toilet (Kara)
…you look forward to “Ice Cream Night” (Kara)

I think that paints a pretty good picture of life here.
