Event Calendar
I would like to offer two suggestions for fun times in Minneapolis, both of which I experienced this weekend:
1) See "Tale of a West Texas Marsupial Girl," the new play at the Children's Theatre by Lisa D'Amour. It's a wacky story with great music and a lot of really funny moments. Good for kids but I think the adults really liked it, too. And a great message about being different. Susanna Stahlmann has a part in it and Sara Swanberg is stage managing so I had an amazing three connections to this play. Go see it!
2) Experience the "Race" exhibit at the Science Museum. It was designed by the American Anthropological Association to create discussion about all sorts of race issues. There are so many interesting displays in this exhibit--one about how vitamin D factors into skin color, some photography about mixed race people, videos about the connection between race and housing in the U.S., a neat intereactive thing about the labels on the U.S. Census. It's super-interesting and appropriate for adults and older children (there's a lot to read in this one). While you're there see the omnitheatre movie "Hurricane on the Bayou" which did a great job of blending the story of Hurricane Katrina, the music of New Orleans and an important environmental message about the effects of climate change. Go see it!
