the nightmares begin

Last night I experienced the first of what I'm sure will be a series of many nightmares about student teaching. In my dream, I was assigned to student teach in Mr. Wild's class. Pleased as I was to see Mr. Wild again, he teaches 7th grade science and social studies in Spanish, so I was clearly not in the right place. Whoever my supervisor was refused to acknowledge that I needed to be in an English class, so I decided to stay for the day to observe.

But Mr. Wild asked if I'd had any experience student teaching, I said no, and he told me I should just jump in and teach the class for the day. He also told me he had started teaching math! So for some reason I agreed to teach and I thought I did okay, considering I didn't know the kids, math is not my best subject and I had no lesson plan to work from. I spent so much time trying to reign in the students, that I didn't notice when class was supposed to be over and kept everyone until lunch time.

Mr. Wild wasn't gentle Mr. Wild in my dream, and he basically called me incompetent. I walked past the teachers lounge and saw some of my classmates saying what a great day they had.

So anyway, it's September and I don't technically start student teaching until March. I hope I get some sleep this year!
