Toward the finish line

In twelve minutes, I must get back to work. It seems that for every task I cross off my list I think of another I must add to it; it's amazing.

An update on my life:

This is my last semester of the M.Ed. program. I'm currently fighting my way through classes, advising appointments and paperwork to make sure this is so. Classes end in mid-March, then student teaching, then a summer off before real live teaching in the fall.

List of things to work on:

  • Finishing classes. I'm taking four of them: Teaching Composition, Developments in Teaching English (which involves creating my lesson plans for student teaching), Diverse Learners (focused mostly on ESL students) and Popular Culture and Education (see my other blog at http://emilyci5472.blogspot.com/). It seems a full semester is being crunched into half the time, so there is a LOT of reading and planning to be done.
  • Student teaching. For the moment, I am just observing Mr. Leisen's 9th grade English class at Maple Grove Junior high once a week. But starting March 16th, I'll be there everyday, teaching one unit on poetry analysis and another on Romeo & Juliet. I am nervous.
  • Finding myself a job. I already bought myself a suit for interviews (thanks Gramma!) and I signed up to go to the big Education Job fair over my spring break. My first choice is still good ole Richfield Middle School, but there will be quite a few districts interviewing at the job fair, so I have some work to do on resumes and interview prep.
  • Taking the Praxis PLT. I hope this will be the last standardized test I'll ever take. Enough said.
Okay, my twelve minutes are up. Back to my homework. I'll post something more detailed soon, os prometo.

As we have been watching in the old family movies...
you have been training for this your whole life. You will be an awesome teacher. Go Ms. Somers.
